Human/synthesis hybrid. Heartbeat by 9 Soundware is a set of instruments for the EXS24 sampler within Apple Logic Pro. The idea behind the collection is the transformation of recordings of the human heart and other internal organs with the signal processing capabilities of Logic.
The instruments are based on 299 samples. They are based on audio which was captured using an electronic stethoscope, which is more sensitive and capable of capturing quieter sounds compared to acoustic stethoscopes. The 224 unprocessed source audio files are also included in the sound set.
The 30 instruments in the sound set are divided into four categories.
The “A” category consists of instruments based on heartbeat samples. Included is one which uses release triggers to allow playback control over the second half of pulses.
The “B” category is comprised of 3 instruments which simulate snare drums.
The “C” instruments emphasize the organic quality of the source recordings.
The instruments of the “D” category produce timbres with a strong synthetic character.
All 30 instruments are in the Channel Strip format which reference EXS24 files that can be used on their own. The .cst format was used to allow the use of effects in the instrument design.

THIS PRODUCT HAS BEEN TESTED AND CONFIRMED TO BE COMPATIBLE WITH APPLE LOGIC PRO 9 (VERSION 9.0.2), BUT KNOWN ISSUES EXIST UNDER 10 (VERSION 10.0.7).
Unlike the Logic Pro EXS24 factory content, samples used for each instrument are not placed in individual folders. Instead, they are all placed in one folder. The primary reason for this is to simplify the creation of new instruments. Users are invited to create new .exs files which draw on these samples. Great attention was paid to avoid cryptic sample names. Filenames follow a labeling schema which indicate sample attributes such as intended trigger modes and duration. This information can be found at the 9 Soundware website where it is regularly updated. Unlike most other sample content products, this is an evolving product. The door is always open for updates, be it fixes or entirely new instruments. Please visit www.9soundware.com for the latest.
In addition to Apple’s EXS24 mkII and EXSP24 mkII, the sample format is also supported by products such as Native Instruments Kontakt, Mark of the Unicorn Mach Five, Steinberg Halion, and Digidesign Structure. However, EXS24 instruments by 9 Soundware are designed for use solely within the EXS24 mkII and EXSP24 mkII plug-ins included with Apple’s Logic Pro and Logic Express. Proper playback with third party samplers is not guaranteed. In addition, due to enhancements in modulation routings for the mkII version, .exs files by 9 Soundware are not backward compatible with the EXS24 mkI sampler.
THIS IS VERSION 2 OF AN EXISTING PRODUCT. FREE UPDATES HAVE BEEN SENT TO ALL REGISTERED USERS OF THE PREVIOUS VERSION. DETAILS ARE LISTED IN THE FAQ PAGE.
